Jimmy and his wife Nancy opened up about their fertility struggles in a 2020 episode The Tonight Show. The couple always knew they wanted children, but it took them “five years to really, really, really, really, really decide not to give up,” Nancy explained before having their two daughters.
“At some point it almost had to become like a job because it’s way too emotional to go through,” Nancy said. “So you just keep going and going and going, and if you really want something, you just go for it. And you have all these things where you go, ‘Yeah, but I would never do that. Yes, but I would never do that…” Then you suddenly say, “Hey, I’ll do that. If it’s for my family, I’ll do anything.’”
Describing the process as “crazy,” Jimmy said “at one point it was just gunshots and things and drinking weird teas” as he and Nancy tried to conceive. Nancy also encouraged others who have been struggling with fertility to stay hopeful in their journey.
“I think if anyone out there has a dream, don’t give up,” Nancy added. “Because I also realized that unlike becoming a multi-billionaire, you can stumble upon a lottery ticket and win it and win the lottery, but you will never come across a child to love and have as family. So don’t give up.”
