COMMENT ON THE AWARD FORECAST: Though he wouldn’t be an Oscar nominee, as the late Kobe Bryant did (and won) for the short animated winner “Dear Basketball”, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal was named in Ben Proudfoot’s “The Queen of Basketball”. will surely help with the awards campaign. It also helps that many believe that Proudfoot should have won an Oscar last year, along with Kris Bowers (shortlisted for his score for King Richard this year) for A Concerto is a Conversation.

While the final nominations are not final, we saw Emmy nominee Courteney Cox, best known for starring Monica Gellar on Friends, add an Oscar nomination to her list of awards. After an impressive career in acting and producing, she finally landed her first Emmy nomination last year as one of the executive producers of HBO Max’s “Friends: The Reunion”. As one of the producers of Alexandria Jackson’s “Sophie & the Baron”, she could become the first “girlfriend” to receive an Oscar nomination. A sad fact when you consider that Jennifer Aniston should have received Oscar nominations for “Cake” (2014) and Lisa Kudrow for “The Opposite of Sex” (1998).

Documentary filmmaker Laura Poitras is back in action with Neon’s “Terror Contagion”. It helps when the industry is familiar with your work. She has been nominated twice for “My Country, My Country” (2006) and “Citizenfour” (2014), the latter winning her the Oscar for the documentary film.

Netflix will juggle four Doc 15 shorts – “Audible” by Matt Ogens, “Camp Confidential: America’s Secret Nazis” by Daniel Sivan and Mor Loushy, “Lead Me Home” by Pedro Kos (whose documentary “Rebel Hearts” made it) it was not shortlisted) and Jon Shenk as well as “Three Songs for Benazir” by Elizabeth Mirzaei and Gulistan Mirzaei. Unsure which film will make it, but Ogens, Sivan and Loushy’s films seem to have the best take right now.

Voting for the Oscar nominations will begin Thursday, January 27, 2022 and will end on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. The official nominations for the Oscar nominations will be announced on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, the ceremony takes place on Sunday, February 8th. March 27, 2022.
