Brad Pitt vs. Angelina Jolie: How the Hollywood supercouple went from LOVE to LOATHE

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have had several ups and downs over the years. One of Hollywood’s most notorious love stories began when two of the most popular actors of their day laid the groundwork for a relationship that would last well over a decade, including six children and several projects together. Things quickly took a turn for the worse, however, and the ensuing episodes culminated in one of the most acrimonious feuds Tinseltown has known.

It’s been more than 15 years since Pitt and Jolie fell in love on the sets of the 2005 action-packed blockbuster Mr & Mrs Smith, which is where they first met. The duo has always been the subject of media scrutiny due to their popularity, and fan interest continued to soar as their relationship blossomed and they welcomed children into the mix. But as fate would have it, the couple parted ways after just two years of marriage. Jolie filed for divorce on September 19, 2016, citing irreconcilable differences, and proceedings were finalized on April 12, 2019.

In 2005, it seemed like “Brangelina” was meant to be together after the future couple played husband and wife in “Mr & Mrs Smith” and embarked on a mission to try and murder each other. Despite the storyline being far from a recipe for romance, the time they spent on set and working together brought them closer. Pitt was married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston at the time. However, their five-year marriage was all but over by the time filming wrapped, and speculation surrounding Pitt and Jolie was rife. Aniston soon filed for divorce, leaving Pitt free to pursue his new lover.

A year into their romance, Pitt and Jolie were expecting their first biological child together. Shiloh Jolie-Pitt (now 14) was born in May 2006. Along with the couple’s adopted children, Maddox, now 20, and Zahara, now 16, the clan was a family of five. In March 2007, Jolie adopted Pax, who is now 16. In February of the following year, Pitt became the child’s legal adoptive father. It’s worth noting that the couple went to great lengths to keep their children out of the limelight, but they slowly came out in public as they got older.

The pair quickly became the most recognizable celebrity couple of the late 2000s. They were linked to the waist and supported each other at awards shows, premieres and whatnot. And despite the media holding up a magnifying glass with every move, the power couple really showed their fans and admirers that they could make it work and how committed they are to their union. They would soon be called “Brangelina” by the press.

Pitt and Jolie welcomed twins Vivienne and Knox in July 2008, just a few years after Shiloh was born. The Hollywood couple was so committed to each other that becoming husband and wife never crossed their minds. The duo shied away from marriage and chose to just stay connected, but that changed a few years later. The couple wed in 2014 at the lavish Château Miraval estate in Correns, France, in an intimate ceremony attended by their many children.

However, their marriage has not stood the test of time. In 2016, just two years after taking holy vows, the couple decided to separate and became embroiled in a contentious legal battle over custody of their children that continues to this day. Several ugly rumors and claims circulated, including that Angelina Jolie was trying to remove the judge handling the case. There were also claims of an altercation on the duo’s private jet, which led to an investigation into child molestation against Pitt. “He got drunk and fought with Angie,” a source claimed in September 2016, adding, “Maddox stepped in to defend Angie and got in Brad’s face.” However, the ‘Fight Club’ star turned in November Acquitted of the charges in 2016.

In February 2021, Pitt sued his ex Angelina Jolie after she sold her 50 percent stake in Chateau Miraval to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler. The ‘Lara Croft’ star reportedly didn’t get permission from her ex for the sale. Court documents suggested Pitt was attempting to void Jolie’s deal, even seeking damages for the move. The actor claimed in the filing that they had an agreement that neither could sell their stake without the other party’s permission. “[Angelina] is seeking a return on an investment she didn’t make and gains she didn’t deserve,” a source close to Pitt told HollywoodLife. The court battle between the exes continues to this day.
