EXCLUSIVE: Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired the North American rights to Paul Riccio’s dramedy Give or take, toplined by Norbert Leo Butz (Fosse / Verdon, pedigree), Joanne Tucker (American rust, The report) and Cheri Oteri (Saturday night live), with plans to release it in theaters in multiple markets in February.
Pic follows a disaffected New Yorker who receives news of his father’s death. He then returns to Cape Cod and prepares his house for sale while sharing it with his father’s spirited friend. They circle each other in mourning, bumping their heads, negotiating how to remember the different man they both loved and the meaning of what he left behind.
Riccio and Jamie Effros wrote the script for the feature film, which also starred Jamie Effros, Louis Cancelmi, Annapurna Sriram and Jaden Waldman.
Riccio and Effros produced with David Kuhn, Angela Malley and Kevin Matusow, Robert and Nyna Malley exec produced alongside Janet Riccio, Garvin Brown IV, Paul and Maureen Kaplan, The Loevenguths, Matt Kishlansky, Martha Rothbaum, Jordan Rosner and Gato Scatena.
“It’s wonderful. I made a movie that was so personal and so real to me, but the audience really reacted to it. I think it’s true – every family vacillates between emotional pain and total exhilaration. Also, mischievous raccoons are and bossy real estate agents always funny, “said Riccio.” Working with Breaking Glass was great. Your love for Give or take and thoughtful approach to launching in North America confirms that we made the right choice. You are a great partner. “
“Give or take is that rare film that has managed to tackle a serious subject in a heartwarming way, ”added Richard Wolff, CEO of Breaking Glass. “This story is honest and lighthearted, yet it conveys a powerful message about how to deal with the death of a loved one. We are very excited to bring this story and the great ensemble closer to the North American audience. “
Give or take had its world premiere at the Woods Hole Film Festival in July and won the audience award for best feature film. It has played at numerous festivals, including the kick-off of this year’s Provincetown Film Festival.
The rights agreement was negotiated between Wolff, Riccio and Jordan Rosner and Gato Scatena from Scatena & Rosner Films.
