Courteney Cox has revealed she wants to play a “fancy” character in Downton Abbey as she’s tired of playing “competitive neat freaks” like Friends’ Monica Geller.

The 57-year-old actress made the reveal while chatting to actor Hugh Bonneville, 58, who plays Lord Grantham in the franchise, on The John Bishop Show on Saturday.

She said: “I want to be in Downton. I think I’d like to be plush – they have better clothes. I wouldn’t want to play another competitive orderly freak.’

Comedian John soon marked the start of the hysterical skit with a flick of a clapper board, with Hugh noting, “Ah, the newspaper, the chance to catch up on the day’s events…

“And a great place to hide my script when I haven’t bothered to learn my lines!”

Beaming, the SAG winner asked, “You need someone to clean this whole mansion? When can I start?’

Hugh sighed, “Well, it’s not as easy as it sounds. There is also cooking, tending to the horses, sucking up the blood if my ulcer bursts at dinner.”

She interjected: ‘I can do all that!’

In disbelief, he asked, “Alone? But there are over 100 rooms. It would take months, if not years, of non-stop cleaning and tidying up.’

It comes after viewers accused her of looking “bored” and “glazed” during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.

The actress was on the show to talk about her latest comedy-horror series called Shining Veil, but people watching commented that she “looked like she’d rather be somewhere else.”

One pointed out that while Graham is “excellent at managing guests,” the interview was “awkward” due to her “dissociated” demeanor.
