The fifth film contribution in the iconic Scream franchise hits theaters in mid-January, and long-time fans of the horror series are excited and ready to see their favorite characters in action again. Many of the original stars of the first Scream Film released in 1996 will return for this episode including Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox. Recently, in an intimate interview, Cox opened up about how she feels about returning to the franchise that helped make her a star and why doing TV is scarier than making movies do.
Courteney Cox plays Gale Weathers in the Scream series
The first Scream The film was released in 1996 and featured a star-studded cast including relative newcomer Cox. At the time, Cox was receiving recognition for her work on the television series friends, but Scream helped prove that Cox had what it took to make it as both a movie star and a leading man on television. Cox, who is now a huge star in movies and TV shows, will reprise her iconic Gale Weathers character in the new film.
Why did Courteney Cox say TV is scarier than movies?
Cox has been a mainstay in the entertainment business for decades. As a show business veteran, there’s little that scares Cox. Cox noted that, in her experience, working in television is a lot scarier than working in film: “When I go out on television and do something new, it’s petrifying. You feel that nothing can live up to what you have done before. But in movies, we get the script and we come to play our characters.”

She also took note of the lessons being worked on Scream taught her, “There’s a deeper meaning to the fact that anyone can be a Ghostface. What it taught me is that you never go into a parking lot at night. You don’t go to the toilet in the cinema. And everyone could jump in at the deep end.” Fans can catch Scream in theaters January 14.
