The fifth (but) Purge film is finally here. The Forever Purge is currently in theaters and unlike the final film in the franchise, The First Purge, this one is not a prequel. Instead, it’s a direct sequel to The Purge: Election Year from 2016.
The franchise envisions a world where the United States legally sanctions all crimes – including murder – for a single 12 hour period once a year to keep the violent intentions of its citizens at bay. It’s a simple but ridiculous idea, but it is almost haunted at times.
You may not expect there to be much to discover beyond a single movie with an idea like this. But The Purge Franchise has proven that it doesn’t. With five films to date and two seasons of a TV show, every follow-up series is fun and easy to get involved with, even if their approach to politics can sometimes seem ridiculous.
But what’s the best take on The Purge? To find out, we went to The Forever Purge and then revisited the other four films and both seasons of the TV show to see the final ranking – until The Purge no doubt hits theaters again in a few years for another film returns. Check out the ranking below, from least to best, and listen in the comments for your thoughts.
Warning: The following contains spoilers for every entry in the Purge franchise, including The Forever Purge, which is now in theaters.
