Everything the busy Philipps said about her struggles with anxiety

The busy Philipps spoke out in a Facebook post for the Child Mind Institute’s #MyYoungerSelf campaign. She shared in the video, “I’ve been scared for as long as I can remember, ever since I was a kid. I lay awake in bed at night and had circling thoughts. I would have a really hard time going to sleep and I would be so scared I wouldn’t even go to my parents’ room. And I didn’t want to tell them what happened because I thought there was something wrong with me.”

In 2018, the actress told People that she suffered from postpartum anxiety after the birth of her daughter, Birdie. “I didn’t want anyone else to touch her. I felt like I was the only one who could help her or calm her down. It was a tough time.” However, her friend and Cougar Town co-star Courteney Cox’s perspective helped Philipps reevaluate her options: “Courteney was like, ‘I think you should talk to a doctor about medication.’ ”

By opening up as an adult, Philipps realized it’s okay to ask for help. “It turns out there’s nothing wrong with me,” she told Child Mind Institute. “Once I was able to start talking about it, it relieved a lot of the anxiety and I was able to get help — therapy and sometimes medication, which isn’t wrong either.”
