Family and friends hold memorial service for Jim Klobuchar

The Klobuchar family is hosting a celebration in memory of columnist Jim Klobuchar, who died in May 2021 at the age of 93.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. at the Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. The service will include remarks from Jim Klobuchar’s daughter, US Senator Amy Klobuchar, and other family and friends. Watch it live in the player above.

Jim Klobuchar grew up as the son of a miner in the Iron Range of northern Minnesota. He later became a journalist for The Associated Press in Minnesota and later for the Star Tribune, for which he wrote a general public interest column that received national acclaim. By the time he retired in 1995, he had written over 8,400 columns.

“Through his columns, my father told stories of the ‘heroes among us’ – ordinary people doing extraordinary things. “But he’s also stood up for me, from pushing me to finish a ten-day, 1,100-mile father and daughter bike ride from Minneapolis to Jackson Hole to believing that a woman could actually have a seat could win in the US Senate from Minnesota.”

Jim Klobuchar, a veteran, is buried at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis. Details for a public event will be released at a later date.
