Frustration Remains for Families, Friends of Missing Surfside Condo Residents on Day 5 Search – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports


SURFSIDE, FLA. (WSVN) – Family members and friends of those missing after the partial collapse of a Surfside condo building expressed frustration at the slow pace of search and rescue.

Among those waiting to hear from his friends on Monday is Joseph Tanami.

“After all these hours, that: there are only 10 [people confirmed dead],” he said.

7 News cameras recorded Tanami when he appeared to be talking to a police officer.

When asked what he would like to see, Tanami replied, “Find them, find these people. I want to see her alive, but also a body, something that moves, you understand? There are a lot of people underneath. “

151 people are still missing on Monday afternoon. They are believed to be under a massive pile of concrete and rubble that was once part of the Champlain Towers south apartment.

The day after they were given the opportunity to visit the site for the first time since the collapse, the families gathered again for a briefing by the officials.

The pain of that visit was visible when they returned.

A couple of blocks away. a memorial to the victims continues to grow.

Meanwhile, loved ones and a shattered community desperately hold on to hope.

“[The best thing to do] is really praying and hoping for the best, ”Tanami said.

The relatives are expected to return to the Family Reunification Center at 9301 Collins Ave. later Monday. return for further briefing from district and local officials.
