The scream you hear is getting closer.

Only six months until the premiere of the new one on January 14th, 2022 Scream, and a good look at the iconic Ghostface killer was revealed this week by film sound designer Greg Russell, according to cbr.com.

This picture – seen below – isn’t the first time fans have gotten a taste of it. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett had previously posted a photo of the famous mask on their Twitter page to celebrate the filming of the film. And before that, executive producer Kevin Williamson shared a photo of Ghostface in front of what appears to be the Stu Macher house from the 1996 original Scream.

But this new picture (the Instagram post with the photo has already been deleted) is different. This shot is the first close-up of the mask – the others were full body photos.

And close inspection seems to reveal subtle differences in the eyes, mouth, and distance with this mask. In fact, this mask looks very similar to the mask that is worn in Scream 4th.

One website, ghostface.co.uk, has its own page that lists the various forms of Ghostface masks used in each movie.

Details on this news Scream were closely guarded up to this point, and an official summary simply states that a woman “is returning to her hometown to find out who committed a variety of vicious crimes”. And there undoubtedly hangs a gruesome story.

The film brings back Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, David Arquette as Dewey Riley and Marley Shelton as Deputy Judy Hicks. Newcomers include Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, Kyle Gallner, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mikey Madison.

The Scream Franchise – which (so far) has gone through Scream 4th– Has proven to be a box office hit, earning more than $ 600 million worldwide.
