EDINBURG – In recognition of the difficult year that has just passed for so many Hidalgo County’s school children, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez has arranged a visit from none other than Mother Goose, who will attend several elementary schools in the area to mark the To help children transition back to class learning.
Judge Cortez welcomes ventriloquist Margaret Clauder, who travels the state of Texas to inspire children to love books through nursery rhymes. She will visit six different school districts in Hidalgo County, starting with Valley View ISD starting at 9 a.m. tomorrow
“Our greatest investment should be in our children to give them the highest chance of success.” said Judge Cortez. âOur goal should be to help these children develop good communication skills – especially those children who are growing up with Spanish. Motivated by the desire to invest in them, we began to research how we could make the transition back to school a little easier for younger students and came to the conclusion: What could be better than bringing a celebrity like Mother Goose with us? “
With a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts, Judge Cortez arranged the visit of Clauder, aka Mother Goose, who has performed in front of thousands of children in libraries across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
Her motivation, she said, is to make studying fun, a motivation shared by Judge Cortez, who seeks to tone down the fear factor that the pandemic has brought to our younger residents.
The series of 14 performances will be highlighted by two public performances on Thursday, September 23 at the City of McAllen Public Library and Friday, September 24 at the City of Weslaco Public Library. Each of the performances will follow all guidelines recommended by the CDC to keep the children as safe as possible. The audience can reserve seats for the public performances through Eventbrite.
