The Jennifer Aniston Salad recipe has been making the rounds on social media for years. But every time there are trends, the ingredients seem to have changed. Which makes it difficult to know if the recipe really came from the friends Star, or if it’s just an internet legend.
We did some research to get to the bottom of this mystery. And it turns out Aniston claimed there was a perfect salad. But it’s not the one Courteney Cox says they ate every day on set friends.
Jennifer Aniston and her ‘Friends’ co-stars ate the same salad every day
The history of the “Jennifer Aniston Salad” dates back to the dawn of social media when Cox gave him an interview Los Angeles Times. It was 2010 – six years after that friends finale — and Cox recalled that every day she, Aniston and Lisa Kudrow ate a salad that the Rachel Greene actress “improved.”
“It was a Cobb salad that Jennifer prepared with turkey bacon and garbanzo beans and I don’t know what,” Cox said. “She’s just really good with food, which really helps. Because if you eat the same salad every day for 10 years, it better be a good salad, right?”
But the latest recipe making the rounds online, dubbed the “Jennifer Aniston Salad,” doesn’t include bacon. So what gives?
Jennifer Aniston Claims This Is the ‘Perfect Salad’
Cox may remember a salad Aniston made with bacon friends throw every day. But that ingredient wasn’t part of the “perfect salad recipe” Aniston shared in 2015 when she took over the Living Proof brand’s Instagram account for a day. At that point, Aniston shared a photo of her healthy no-cook lunch — which is super easy to recreate.
“My perfect salad,” she wrote via People Magazine. “Bulgar, cucumber, parsley, mint, red onion, chickpeas, feta cheese and pistachios.”
That caption made it clear that this recipe came directly from Aniston. And it also confirmed that it wasn’t the same salad she’d been making on set every day for 10 years friends.
The recipe for the “perfect salad”
So how do you make Aniston’s perfect salad? Inside the recipe that got around on Instagram and TikTok recently – shared by Jordana Hart @ihartnutrition — Aniston’s salad is recreated with handy measurements.
Start by cooking 3.5 cups of bulgur according to package directions (you may know bulgur wheat as tabbouleh). Hart boiled dry one of these mugs, which works perfectly. Then let this cool while you mix the other ingredients.
Get your knife out and chop 2-3 mini cucumbers, plus 1/2 cup parsley and 1/2 cup mint. Next, finely chop 1/3 cup red onion and 1/2 cup pistachios. Place all the chopped ingredients in a large bowl, add the bulgur, and crumble in 1/2 cup of feta cheese.
Add 2 cups of rinsed and drained chickpeas (aka garbanzo beans), then drizzle on a simple dressing—the juice of one lemon, ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil, salt, and pepper. Mix all ingredients together and enjoy.
All ten seasons of friends are now playing on HBO Max.
