Scream franchise veteran Neve Campbell is responding to a recent rumor that claims she’s secretly signed a deal to play the Scream 6 sequel.
Neve Campbell gives an update on her scream 6 Contract after rumors she signed for the sequel. 2022 Scream was able to successfully reboot the franchise by poking fun at the current trend of rebooting and remaking classic horror films. Reviews for the film were mostly positive despite being the first Scream Film in which Wes Craven was not involved. It also did pretty well at the box office, grossing $140 million worldwide, so of course, scream 6 was quickly confirmed by Paramount and Spyglass.
With Scream As a sequel and reboot, it introduced a new cast of characters and also brought back Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott), Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers), and David Arquette (Dewey Riley). Cox and Campbell were both originally scheduled to return, but last month Campbell announced she would not be returning scream 6 because of wage disputes. A rumor recently circulated around the internet that Campbell had secretly signed a contract to appear in it scream 6 and 7 but that the studios kept it a secret for her look Spider-Man: No Way Home-like surprise for moviegoers.
While the rumor didn’t generate enough steam for Paramount to officially respond, Campbell has now put the rumor to rest. While attending a panel at Crazy Monster Party ArizonaCampbell was asked if there was any truth to the rumors about her signing scream 6. Campbell replied apologetically: “There is nothing I am afraid to say. I’m sorry.
There’s always a chance that Campbell is lying to keep her return a secret, but that seems incredibly unlikely in this case. Campbell is not returning because she felt she was not adequately compensated for what she brought to the US Scream Franchise. It also wouldn’t make sense for Paramount to try to keep Campbell’s return a secret like Marvel did with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Campbell just walked in Scream Earlier this year and with her character’s survival, fans were already expecting her to return scream 6 Paramount could get that kind of reaction by bringing back another legacy character like Stu (Matthew Lillard). However, the situation with Campbell appears to be a more serious issue between her and the studio, meaning news of her absence is almost certainly not just a huge marketing ploy.
With Campbell appearing in each one Scream Film to date, it is disappointing that Paramount and Spyglass have still not reached an agreement with Campbell. Campbell has confirmed scream 6‘s story involved Sidney Prescott. But with filming scream 6 Halfway through, even if the studio decides to pay her more, Sidney likely won’t have as much of a role as originally planned. The writers must now find a good way to write Sidney out of the sequel’s story, so it’s a bit disappointing that Campbell has denied this latest rumor.
