Neve Campbell’s presence will be felt in the next “Scream”.

Gone but certainly not forgotten.

The next Scream— the sixth entry in the classic horror franchise — is now filming for a March 31, 2023 theatrical release, but — as has been reported for some time — Legacy star Neve Campbell will not be reprising her role as Sidney Prescott.

But her ghost will definitely be on set, according to another longtime Ghostface antagonist.

Melissa Barrera, who will once again play Sam Carpenter scream 6 (or whatever the title will be) — told US Magazine that things would be different without Campbell, but the fan favorite “is present. Sydney is present. Their essence is present in the film. You just can’t ignore that.”

The entire cast, Barrera said, was “heartbroken over their decision (not to accept the offer that was made to them). But we fully understand and respect their decision. And if we do another one, hopefully we can have it back.”

Still, the rest of the cast has a job to do. “It’s hard to imagine making a film without her,” Barrera added, “but we can’t commit too much to it. Because we still have to make a film.”

And in this film, Barrera is joined by recurring stars Courteney Cox, Hayden Panettiere, Jasmine Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Jenna Ortega. The film’s newcomers include Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, Josh Segarra, Henry Czerny, Samara Weaving and Tony Revolori.

The upcoming film will once again be helmed by the directing team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

The film follows “the four survivors of the Ghostface murders as they leave Woodsboro behind and begin a new chapter.” And it looks like they’re going to the big city of Manhattan. The stakes just got a lot higher.
