The original home from the first Scream movie is available to rent through Airbnb in a limited time campaign to promote the franchise before the sequel.
The original home used in the final act of Wes Craven’s 1996 slasher hit Scream can now be rented as accommodation on Airbnb. Although the franchise has produced three sequels so far and a fourth is slated for release next January, House hasn’t made any reruns on the series from the first film. Yet, Scream Fans would love the opportunity to spend a night at the location where the identity of the Ghostface killers was first revealed.
Besides playing an important role in rejuvenating the teen slasher genre for a new generation of horror fans, Scream also succeeded in recapturing aspects of the horror film that had long since become cliché. The teenage victim, home alone and haunted by a seemingly ubiquitous masked killer who is desperate to murder as many teenagers as possible, and of course the house party where anyone who says I’ll be right back will never come back . The film is a love letter to all ridiculous and unlikely horror concepts, and as the series expanded, so too did their options for when and where Ghostface could strike. Still, after all these years and sequels, many Scream Fans will argue that it is difficult to find a better place for terrorism than the home of Stu Macher’s parents in the first year Scream Movie.
Now, thanks to Airbnb, this very house is available for Scream Fans to spend the night. Officially listed on the popular accommodation site since October 12th, longtime performer David Arquette will be renting out as Scream Person, Sheriff Dewey Riley. Arquette recently took the time to promote the property through his personal Instagram account, which can be booked by up to four guests for three separate vacancies on October 27th, 29th and 31stNS:
Check-in at the house is done virtually with a welcome message from Sheriff Dewey. In addition, lucky guests will receive VHS copies of all four Scream Movies, a dedicated phone line for those brave enough to reach Ghostface, a kitchen full of 90s snacks like Jiffy Pop and Reddi-Whip, and the ability to take them home Scream Memorabilia – although there is currently no detailed explanation of how this process works. The listing also indicates the possibility that guests could receive a call from Ghostface at some point during their stay. Fans will remember the unfortunate death of Dewey’s sister Tatum (Rose McGowan) in the garage of the house, and this is just one of several major filming locations the Makers House offers Scream Pendant.
It is also important to point out that in spite of the Scream Because the franchise is popular around the world, the Airbnb listing is only available to US residents. That bad news aside, staying at the house would be a night to remember for anyone Scream Fan, and there really is no better way to prepare for the fifth that is coming up Scream filming than spending a night where it all began 25 years ago.
