Bilson, Clarke and Barton starred in The OC, which debuted on Fox in 2003 and ran for four seasons through 2006.

MTV debuted in Laguna Beach, dubbed “The Real Orange County,” in 2004, likely as a reference to The OC, which may have been the reason Bilson and Barton were approached to join The Hills.

Barton appeared on The Hills: New Beginnings season one, although it was revealed in late 2020 that she was leaving the show with Stephanie Pratt.
