Paramount Pictures is releasing another look at Woodsboro’s newest Ghostface killer, which will be featured in the upcoming Scream movie.

Photo shared by USA Today shows Ghostface, everyone’s iconic killer Scream Films, in the classic black hooded cloak with their characteristic weapon: a bloody Buck 120 hunting knife. In this fifth installment of the franchise, a new person will put on the Ghostface mask and go on a rampage in the town of Woodsboro, 25 years after the first film of the same name from 1996.
Promotional material in advance of the publication of Scream repeatedly teased the mysterious identity of the new Ghostface killer. Previously released posters showed returning franchise alums Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers, and David Arquette’s Dewey Riley, each wearing the Ghostface mask, further leading home that the killer’s identity can, in fact, be anyone. Another poster featuring the characters above and several newbies including Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) and Richie Kirsch (Jack Quaid) even teased that “the killer is on this poster”. This is in line with previous ones Scream Movies because a different person has appeared as Ghostface in each iteration of the franchise.
As in the previous films, the identity of Ghostface itself was kept top secret by the actors, who each received different scripts to keep the identity of the Woodsboro killer a secret. original Scream Director Wes Craven did something similar on his sets, often filming additional scenes to unsettle his actors before the big reveal. While surrounded by plot details Scream remain rare, the official summary revealed that the story will take place 25 years after the first film in 1996, when “a new killer puts on the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to uncover secrets from the to revive the city’s deadly past “.
The fifth part of the franchise, simply titled Scream, is described by the cast and crew as a relaunch rather than a sequel. While the latest installment features a mix of old and new cast members, this will be the first film in the franchise that was not directed by Craven, who died in August 2015. original Scream Writer and current executive producer Kevin Williamson announced that filming was completed in November 2020. âAlmost 25 years ago when I wrote Scream and Wes Craven brought it to life, I couldn’t have imagined the lasting impact it would have on you, the fans, âhe said. âI am glad that you are returning to Woodsboro and that you are getting really scared again. I think Wes would have been so proud of the movie Matt and Tyler are making. “
Scream is one of many films and television shows whose premieres have been hit by the recent surge in the Omikron variant of the coronavirus (COVID-19). While its red carpet premiere was canceled, Scream should be in the cinemas on January 14, 2022.
