Scream: Why the Latest Sequel, Now on Neon, Won’t Disappoint Longtime Fans

As someone who loved the original Scream, and the slasher genre in general, I was excited for the 2022 version, set in the same city but 25 years later – and it didn’t disappoint.

Though the series is set to mark a reboot of the multi-millionaire Scream franchise following the death of original creator Wes Craven in 2015, Scream 2022 picks up right where Scream 4 stopped.

A quarter century after the brutal murders in the quiet town of Woodsboro, Ghostface resorts to her old tricks and begins targeting unsuspecting teenagers, all of whom are somehow connected to Ghostface’s earliest murders. But who could be behind the mask this time?

Fans of the first Scream will be excited to see the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, the original main target of Ghostface, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, and David Arquette as Dewey Riley, the town’s former sheriff, who come together to celebrate the… defeat person behind the mask one more time.

The story is delivered in the series’ infamously satirical tone while providing the jump scares and whodunit themes every true crime junkie craves.

Ghostface returned to Woodsboro in the 2022 film Scream — and the jumps were just as big as ever.

* Scream: A solid re-imagining of insight and horror that Wes Craven would be proud of
* Scream 4: 2011’s reason why 2022’s next Shriek-Quel has so much to offer
* American film director Wes Craven dies

City on a Hill Season 3 is now available to stream on Neon.

city on a hill

This has all the ingredients for the perfect cop show – corruption, guns, sex and cheesy one-liners delivered with some serious Boston accents.

The American crime drama is set in 1990s Boston, with Hollywood legend Kevin Bacon as Jackie Rohr, a respected but corrupt FBI veteran, and Aldis Hodge as high-profile prosecutor Decourcy Ward, who form an alliance to break it up with the criminal justice system to take in the city.

In series two and three, the latter of which has just arrived at Neon, the two continue to grapple with corruption and criminals in their native Boston, while the show dives into some darker, more relatable themes like systemic racism and fractured law enforcement.

If you’re into a good cop show, City on a Hill certainly won’t disappoint.

Death of a Telemarketer is now available to stream on Neon.

Death of a telemarketer

Having started as an underdog comedy of sorts, Death of a Telemarketer takes a surprising turn when a telemarketer calls someone who definitely doesn’t want cable.

Kasey Miller (played by Lamorne Morris) spends his days working the phones, using his slick charm to sell cable TV to vulnerable people who definitely don’t need it.

Kasey is kicked off the telemarketers leaderboard by a young hotshot, leading to Kasey taking some drastic measures to reclaim his crown – he calls someone on the do not call list.

Kasey calls Asa (Jackie Earle Haley), who – unbeknownst to Kasey – believes that the death of someone close to him was caused by a telemarketer – and is not the naïve hillbilly Kasey believes made a sale .

Will this be the last call Kasey ever makes?

Everest is now available to stream on Neon.

This biographical film tells the story of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster in which eight climbers caught in a snowstorm died on the world’s highest mountain.

Everest focuses on two expedition groups led by New Zealanders Rob Hall (Jason Clarke) and Scott Fischer (Jake Gyllenhaal) and the devastating story of their attempt to survive their descent to Mount Everest Base Camp – and how a myriad of missteps led to their led to death.

It’s hard to watch, especially when you know there’s no happy ending or inspirational story of survival, and the closeness most Kiwis feel when one of them is portrayed on screen.

However, those emotions are heightened by the superb work of the actors and cinematographer, who bring the deadly mammoth mountain and its treacherous conditions to life on screen.
