Something’s brewing – The New Indian Express

BENGALURU: Founder of international jewelry brand Misho, Suhani Parekh’s recent visit to India from London has been very busy launching her brand new collection. But the hustler believes it’s always good to be busy. Worn by international icons such as Zendya, Dua Lipa and Courteney Cox to name a few, her designs have always been a talking point.

Created in collaboration with Araku Coffee, Parekh regards Misho x Araku Coffee as a tribute to the tribal women of the coffee plantations who prepare the beans for brewing. “What I found interesting about this women’s jewelry was that it was different from the usual Native American tribal jewelry, which is quite chunky. The women on the plantation wear minimal jewelry. And I really liked that,” Parekh remembers her first visit to the Araku plantation in Andhra Pradesh.

Parekh (28), who revolutionized her field by introducing minimalist yet architectural designs into everyday jewelry, never intended to be a designer. She was studying sculpture at her university in London and began experimenting with silver when she decided to take the plunge. She always viewed jewelry as a wearable sculpture.

“I didn’t do any training to become a jewelry designer. In that sense, I feel like my approach to a piece is completely different. The first few tracks I did for myself had a bold and unconventional vibe. Every time I wore something new, people asked me if I could do them the same way. That’s how it started, after that it grew naturally,” explains Parekh, adding that she prefers unconventional designs to symmetrical ones. The young artist considers herself lucky to own several pieces that have been “blockbusters” at different times.

“For example, during the pandemic, we launched pebble pod earrings that can hold Airpods. And that went viral. We have mismatched or textured hoop earrings that have been worn by famous women like Rihanna, Hilary Duff and Beyonce,” says Parekh. While trying her best to contain her excitement, Parekh admits that it’s a huge validation when celebrities choose their designs. “These are the people who have access to any type of jewelry but still chose mine. So this feels great,” says Parekh, who tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend in London during the pandemic.

Even in B-Town, her designs are worn by A-listers like Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Sonam Kapoor, and Kareena Kapoor to name a few. She hopes her latest designs will also strike the right note with fashion enthusiasts as they come from a place that pays homage to a group of women in the Araku Valley.

(The designs will be available from May 1st at Araku Coffee in Indiranagar.)
