Actor-model Daniel Matsunaga claimed he’s already learned his lesson – he now prefers to keep his love life private.
“Yes, I am dating someone now. I have a friend that I’d rather not share with my social media followers just yet. Lately my posts have been about what’s happening with my family and my investments,” Daniel told Inquirer Entertainment.
“I chose to do it instead of being 100 percent public. I’ve learned so much from all the ups and downs I’ve experienced. I have chosen to be more exclusive. Even though I come from showbiz, privacy is very important to me,” said Daniel, whose most famous romance of 2015 was with actress Erich Gonzales. Be my wife.”
“Like any other relationship, it’s normal to have a misunderstanding. Anything can go wrong even when you think you are already the one for each other. I just want to keep things like that between us or just between the people around us. Also, she’s not from showbiz,” the 33-year-old explained.
When asked for advice for young men still looking for a romantic partner, he replied: “Every relationship is different but there is only one relationship you can have that is constant and always inspiring. It’s the one you have with your god. By making Him the center of your life, you will eventually be able to find the right one for you. Pray to him about it.”
God’s greater plan
Daniel said it’s also important to stay friends with your exes. “It really depends on how your relationship ended. I have ex-boyfriends who ended up becoming my friends,” he said.
“I’ll get in touch with them. When I find out that they are happy after finding someone, I tell them that I am happy for them too. I am a christian. I believe when a relationship isn’t working out, it means God has something bigger planned for each of you.”
However, when it came to talking about Erich, Daniel declined.
“I prefer not to say anything because it just breeds more hater stuff. These haters are everywhere. I appreciate people who support me, who really try to get to know me first before deciding to judge me. There is nothing else you can do for people with so much negativity. If you take care of her, you would go crazy. I mean, there’s no point worrying about Basher all the time. There is always someone who is dissatisfied with life. I only pray for them,” he explained.
Series of US shows
Daniel, who was the 2014 “Pinoy Big Brother All In” grand prize winner, said he’s received offers for TV projects but is still evaluating his options.
“It will all depend on keeping records not interfering with my schedule for my other businesses. What is certain is that I will be part of a series of shows in the United States from August to September. It will take a lot of time,” emphasized the Brazil-Japan international.
Is Daniel working so hard because he’s preparing to settle down?
“Right now, I’m choosing to just chill, to take it slow. Everything will happen in God’s time. I still have a lot to do in terms of my business. What is certain is that I will continue to work for my future and also for the future of my future family. I will continue to do showbiz. I am a Filipino at heart. i love it here I’m basically here,” Daniel said during his introduction as a brand ambassador – along with Kylie Verzosa, Miss International 2016 – of Étoile Salon, located on Sgt. Esquerra Avenue, Quezon City.
“I look forward to it. I’m actually a co-owner too,” said Daniel, who co-owns Étoile with Mac Andrew Merla, a senior artist handler at Cornerstone Entertainment, and Dennis Pagliawan, a longtime hairstylist and barber.
“I have invested in companies in different sectors. This is something new for me. My advice to career starters is to always try to learn from experts in their respective fields. It is important to have mentors. I know this because I have had experiences with scammers. Only work with people you can trust 100 percent. Be smart. Invest in the right things at the right time,” said Daniel.
